Here are some recent One-Time Volunteer Opportunities to give you an idea of some of the things you might choose:
DAY IN THE PARK
September
10 am – 4 pm
Lynchburg's Miller Park
This is an education opportunity for HSCC. Day in the Park is a "fun day" for the kids. We need one or two kid-loving volunteers to join HSCC leaders Barbe and Cindy to coordinate carnival-type games for the kids and
hand out prizes. Be a kid for the day!
ADOPT-A-THON
On Going - Weekends
10 am – 4 pm
Lynchburg PetsMart
The Dog/Cat adoption fairs draw large crowds. We need three to five people to handle dogs and three to five people to handle cats. Volunteers will also hand out brochures/flyers and provide breaks for others.
HSCC YARD SALE
June
7 am – 5 pm
Animal Control Facility, Rustburg
We need volunteers to help set up, sell, and pack up.
PICTURES WITH SANTA CLAWS
December
11 am – 4 pm
Lynchburg PetsMart
This is a fundraising event for HSCC. We need the following volunteers:
a man to pose with people's pets dressed as Santa Claus
one photographer to take photos using Polaroid camera
one Santa's Helper
PetsMart provides all supplies (suit, film, camera, backdrop). Sign up for one day or both!
ANIMAL TRANSPORTS
One Going – All Year
Helping to transport animals to various locations for transport to other rescues
Examples of other types of one-time volunteer opportunities:
Stuffing envelopes for newsletter mailing
Assisting at other fundraisers
Assisting at the twice yearly rabies clinic (local vet administers low-cost rabies vaccines – volunteers fill out rabies certificates and take payment)
There will be other opportunities as well (these don't involve extensive training).
