UPDATE: New Year goals for us are to find a wonderful forever home for this wonderful dog, who is a perfect companion for a family with small children! She adores babies, that's a fact. She follows an 8-year old around the house everywhere she goes, and is completely devoted to her, at the foster family's home. Sophia was seen by the vet, who feels it is possible her neurological "head tilt" was either the result of contracting distemper as a puppy (and surviving it), or perhaps trauma from an accident. Whichever the cause, it does not appear to affect Sophia's personality or her desire to please. She will be one wonderful dog in a forever home!
12/20: Sophia has developed an infection of some sort and needs desperately to be seen by a vet. I have no clue what it could be, but her foster mom is very concerned, as am I. Sophia appears to have perhaps given birth to a litter recently, so of course, we are wondering if her illness is related.
Original Posting: Sophia broke my heart when I saw how thin and broken she appeared to be. She was found near Sheetz on highway 460 and was in poor shape. A few days of food and dewormer have made a huge difference in her demeanor, and we are hoping to find her a home where can live forever. We discovered last night that she carries her head at a tilt, and doesn't always realize how close she is walls or doorways. We can only assume she has had trauma to her head, and perhaps has difficulty with her vision. I love this gentle dog, who lays on the cold floor of the pound with her front legs outstretched, just as a sighhthound might do. I rarely see dogs other than Afghans, Greyhounds, and Whippets lay like this, so really have to wonder about her breed mix. Can you help our lovely, gentle girl? Please apply online.
